ANGELA CORSON
I make art that has a strong component of social commentary and that seeks to illuminate injustices. My work consists mostly of large format paintings, sculptures, installations, and murals. I generally start with an idea I want to develop, and then look for materials that will allow me to visually communicate my message effectively.
My purpose is to communicate with my audience through what I can create with my hands, as I feel that although language is a useful tool it also has many limitations. I want people to react to my art so it can spark a conversation or reflection on a particular topic. As my art is conceptual, it can sometimes have a shocking impact, and it often shows a reality that people don’t want to see. I feel that making art is my purpose in life, and I love when I find an audience willing to listen to what I have to say.
Hago arte que tiene un fuerte componente de comentario social y que busca iluminar las injusticias. Mi trabajo consiste principalmente en pinturas, esculturas, instalaciones y murales de gran formato. Generalmente comienzo con una idea que quiero desarrollar y luego busco materiales que me permitan comunicar visualmente mi mensaje de manera efectiva.
Mi propósito es conectarme con mi audiencia a través de lo que puedo crear con mis manos, ya que siento que si bien el lenguaje es una herramienta útil, también tiene muchas limitaciones. Busco crear una reacción en el espectador con la cual se genere una conversación o una reflexión sobre un tema en particular. Considero que hacer arte es mi propósito en la vida, y me siento realizada cuando encuentro una audiencia dispuesta a escuchar lo que tengo que decir.
